Horse riding races were run for the first time in Olympia in the 33rd Olympic Games (648 BC). With horses in perfect conditions, it was a contest with jockeys on horses that made six tours of the hippodrome. In the 71st Olympic Games (469 BC), the kalpi (race with fillies) is run and in the 131st Olympic Games (256 BC) races with stags. During the races, the jockey was riding naked, without efippio and anavolies (saddle and stirrups), but holding a whip and the reins, as it is portrayed in ancient pottery. Probably, only worriors used efippio. Finally, just as with charioteers, jockeys served the owners of the horses
